John Pearson awarded EPSRC Standard Grant

John Pearson has been awarded funding from EPSRC for his project “Randomized Numerical Linear Algebra for Optimization and Control of PDEs”. The project is in collaboration with Stefan Güttel, University of Manchester and a PDRA will be employed at both institutions to work on the project.

Partial differential equations (PDEs) are used to describe mathematically how real-world physical systems behave: they can model cell biology, chemical reactions, processes in mathematical finance and a vast range of other processes. The project will use modern technologies from the field of numerical linear algebra, in particular randomized linear algebra, in order to optimize such problems.
